How to Download YouTube Playlists

One thing most people don't know is that a playlist URL looks different from a single video URL. If you open a video from inside a playlist, the address bar shows two things: the video ID (after v=) and the playlist ID (after list=). You need the list= part. The easiest way to get a clean playlist URL is to click on the playlist title itself — that takes you to a page with only the list= parameter, which is what the downloader needs.

Choosing between MP4 and MP3 depends on what you're actually going to do with the files. If it's a course, tutorial series, or documentary playlist, MP4 is the obvious pick. But for a music playlist or podcast series, MP3 keeps sizes manageable — a typical 3-minute song is 3–5 MB as MP3 versus 30–100 MB as MP4. For a 50-video music playlist, that's the difference between a 200 MB folder and a 5 GB one.

Long playlists — anything over 100 videos — take time to process. The downloader queues everything in the background, so don't close the tab while it's running. ZIP archives for large playlists can run into several gigabytes, so check that you have enough free storage before you start the download.

YouTube occasionally updates the list= parameter format for certain playlist types like Watch Later or auto-generated mixes. If a specific playlist URL isn't working, try navigating to it directly on YouTube and copying the URL from the address bar rather than from a shared link or email.
